Week 1 welcome night slides
Robots101 - Week 1.pdf
What is Robots101?
- Robots101 is designed to give anyone the opportunity to learn the necessary skills needed to become a roboticist, either by trade or hobby. This is a low stress environment and is easily accessible to anyone of any skill levels.
- The course which runs over a semester gives students the fundamental skills for robotic design. This is especially important as this unit covers key skills and practical experience, giving students an academic edge in their studies.
- The program is a great way to make new friends with a shared interest and similar skill sets, and become a part of an amazing community of people who love robotics.
HSE for Lab Access
HSE inductions are needed to access any of the labs, these involve completing an online course which takes roughly 30 minutes - 1 hour each. These courses give you the necessary knowledge to use any of the tools needed to work safely in these spaces. This is then finalised by a quiz where successful completion is necessary to move on. Below are QR codes that lead to the respective induction pages and I would recommend completing them in your own time.
Once completed, head into any of the guided safety tours run by the lead technician of the spaces. For example, Brendon Stitchbury is the lead technician for any of the S9 laboratories, but any of the techs can do them.

What are the goals of Robots101?
There are two main goals for Robots101.
- To teach key skills that are often glossed over or not taught in early courses for robotic design to students. This prepares students for when these skills need to be applied, giving them an academic head start on the content.
- To excite students to become hobbyist or professional roboticists. Robots101 is an insight into what the Mechatronics Engineering study stream will offer.
Who do I ask if I need extra help or information?
- Feel free to ask any of the executives present for the Robots101 workshops. The executives all have experience in all aspects of what is taught in Robots101 and would be more than happy to help out.
- If you are working on Robots101 outside of projects nights, you can message a question in the #robots-101-general in Discord. Go to the #role-managment channel to gain access to all Robots101 channels.
What can I do if I fall behind on content?
- All the information taught in the projects nights can be found on this wiki. Just visit the page related to the topic you need via the links on the page.
- Weekly Slides will also be made available if you would like a more directed approach
- The content on the wiki is designed in a way where you do not need to be physically present to complete any of the tasks. If you have your own computer/ laptop and a raspberry pi, you can complete almost everything at home.
